Police pulled a woman's body out of a the River Pinn this morning.

The river bank in the vicinity of Peel Way and Pield Heath Road near the Robbie Bell bridge was cordoned off and police moved pedestrians away from the scene while they attended to the body.

The dead woman is of African origin, and has not been formally identified. Next of kin also have not yet been informed.

Police say they were called out to investigate reports of 'abandoned property' at 8.42am today (May 17), and the body was discovered soon afterwards by sniffer dogs. 

 They are treating the death as 'non-suspicious'.
