A WOMAN was stabbed in the leg after a man assaulted her while attempting to steal her handbag.

Police were called to Thornbury Road, in Osterley, at around 1:55am on Friday (21) to reports of a female being seriously assaulted by a man who tried to take her handbag at the same time.

It is believed a lone male approached the victim from behind and stabbed her in the leg while trying to steal her bag. The road was closed for several hours while police gathered crucial evidence from the scene.

Detective Chief Scott Avery, of Hounslow's Crime Investigation Department, said: "We are committed to ensuring those who target the community of Hounslow are challenged and held to account for their actions. I'm appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information, however small, to contact the incident line or to call Crimestoppers."

There have been no arrests at this time and enquiries continue.
