A MURDER inquiry is underway after a woman was stabbed to death in Hounslow.

Police were called at to a residential address in Great South West Road yesterday at around 6am after reports of a disturbance.

On arrival officers found a woman who had been stabbed a number of times.

CPR was performed on the victim until the ambulance service arrived.

The 44-year-old was taken to West Middlesex Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 7.15am.

Officers believe they know the identity of the deceased but await formal identification and confirmation that all next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place Fulham Mortuary today.

Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating the circumstances of the death.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody at a West London police station.
