A WOMAN who threatened to jump from the roof of a Wealdstone building was coaxed safely down by police officers via her mobile phone.

Emergency services were alerted at 12.30am on Sunday to the woman, who had clamoured on top of the three-storey apartment block above the new Sainsbury's store in High Street and could not get back down.

Officers spoke to the distressed woman, in her 30s, by mobile telephone to calm her while a hydraulic platform appliance and specialist rescue team were requested from Wembley Fire Station by colleagues from Harrow.

Dave Donaghey, watch manager at Harrow Fire Station, said: "At the request of the police, a firefighter accessed the roof using a large fire service ladder and managed calm the lady before assisting the lady down the ladder to safety."

She spent almost an hour on the roof of the building and taken by paramedics to Northwick Park Hospital, Watford Road, Harrow, from where she was discharged at approximately 3.20am.
