A WOMAN has died in a road traffic collision involving a lorry outside a discount supermarket.

The victim, whom paramedics believed to be in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene by a London Air Ambulance doctor outside Lidl in High Street, Edgware, at around 10.30am on Friday last week.

The heavy goods vehicle involved was a delivery lorry for cosmetics shop chain Superdrug and the victim, according to eyewitnesses messaging on Twitter, appeared to be an Indian woman in her 70s.

Police closed High Street in both directions between Whitchurch Lane and Camrose Avenue and buses were placed on diversion. It was re-opened after about an hour.

No arrests have been made.

It is the second fatal collision in an almost identical location in the last 18 months.

On September 26 2011, a Toyota Corolla collided with a Peugeot 307 in Lidl's car park before it struck Ruth Joseph, 57, in High Street, before ending up on the central reservation of High Street, also known
as the A5.

Mrs Joseph died of her injuries a week later at Hammersmith Hospital in Shepherd's Bush, west London, on Sunday, October 2.

That incident is still under investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Road Death Investigation Unit based at Alperton, whose officers are also probing the latest death.
