A WOMAN and two children escaped uninjured from a fire which ripped through the 21st floor flat of a tower block on Saturday (10).

Four fire engines arrived to fight the blaze in the Moreton Tower block, in Lexden Road, Acton, around 1pm.

Twenty firefighters battled for an hour before the fire became under control at 2.20pm. No injuries were reported.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: "We were called at 13.23 to a fire on the 21st floor flat. There was 20 per cent damage caused by the fire.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."

Nikki Howard was on her way to Acton Christmas Market when she took this picture. "It was all coming to an end when I saw it but the road was closed off," she said.

"There were four fire engines by the side of the block and an ambulance on the road and police cars right down to the High Street. You couldn't get to Morrison's if you tried."
