POLICE are appealing for witnesses following the death of an elderly man in Fulham Palace Road earlier this week.

The 90-year-old pedestrian from Fulham was struck by a lorry and pronounced dead at the scene by medics near the junction of Crabtree Lane, at about 10.30am on Monday (July 8).

The lorry driver stopped and was quickly joined by three fire engines, police and paramedics.

Police said no arrests have been made and officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit are investigating. A post-mortem examination was due to take place today (Thursday).

In response to the man's death, and to the death of a cyclist in Aldgate last week, a vigil will be held outside City Hall on Friday evening (July 12).

The vigil will be dedicated to all cyclists and pedestrians killed on the roads in London and is being organised by the See Me Save Me campaign which aims to ensure good practice on the capital's roads to help save lives.

Anybody is welcome at the vigil which will start at 5:30pm. It will be followed by a short protest ride, leaving from Tower Hill at 6:15pm, up to Altab Ali Park.

Anybody with information about the incident in Fulham Palace Road should call the Road Death Investigation Unit on 020 8941 9011 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
