Foreign Secretary William Hague has met with members of the Somali community in the London Borough of Ealing.

The meeting with the Conservative cabinet minister was arranged by Ealing Central and Acton MP Angie Bray on May 2 and took place the town hall in New Broadway.

Among the issues discussed with Mr Hague were international bank transfers into the African nation, and ways to help invest and rebuild a country still embroiled in a civil war.

Ms Bray said: "I thought it was important for Mr Hague to meet the Somali community. There were a number of issues they were keen to engage with the government on, especially the money transfer situation.

“We also wanted to know what more we can do to help rebuild Somalia. They were very supportive of what the government is doing. It is very important for the Foreign Secretary to come and here first-hand and hear from people that know what's going on in Somalia."

Mr Hague had been due to visit Ealing in April but had to rearrange after being called away to deal with the crisis in Ukraine.
