IT IS a sad but true fact that widowhood is not confined to the elderly.

Many are young women, more so nowadays in these times of war and urban violence.

It is because of this that I would like to draw your readers' attention to The National Association of Widows, which meets on alternate Tuesdays at 76, Marlborough Hill, Harrow, a short distance from the civic centre and Harrow & Wealdstone Station.

It may be wondered how a mere male such as I knows of this group.

On several occasions they have kindly invited me to their evenings to read some of my short stories to them. I found them to be extremely friendly and a positive thinking group of people, dispelling the stereotyped image of a cluster of elderly ladies, either knitting or wistfully reminiscing over happier times.

Not so with these ladies. Last year they went on holiday to Budapest and visits to the theatre are not unusual. Doubtless they have plans for this year and I would strongly urge any lonely widow to contact this lively and happy gathering.
