Home improvement supplies firm Wickes is leaving Harrow and relocating to a new office in Watford.

The borough will lose what the DIY materials company - part of the Travis Perkins Group - calls its Support Centre in Station Road, Harrow, housing the trading, operations, marketing, retail development, supply chain and distribution, and human resources and training specialist departments.

Adverts for jobs at the new base do not specify a move date but say “at the start of 2014” although it is not clear what will happen to its Harrow employees.

In the House of Commons Richard Harrington, Conservative MP for Watford, said during Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday: “I would like to mention Wickes in particular, which is setting up its headquarters in Watford, with 200 new jobs, next week.

“I am very pleased to report that large companies are finding Watford a very attractive place to do business.”

The new base in Watford will also accommodate the head office functions being relocated from Northampton.

The Support Centre in Harrow was created out of a regular store in 1987.
