WHITTON schoolgirls will see their flag designs displayed before the world at the Uefa Women’s Champions League final on Thursday.

Two pupils at St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School won a competition to design a flag for the biggest match in women’s club football, which takes place at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

Anneliese Power, six, and Lucy Elliott, eight, impressed judges of the contest, jointly organised by Uefa, the FA and the mayor of London, with their colourful designs.

They both won tickets to the match, where they will see their artwork displayed on giant flags, and get to meet former England defender Faye White and England women’s coach Hope Powell, as well as welcome the players in the tunnel.

As an extra reward, both the men’s and women’s Champions League trophies were brought to the school on Monday, giving children the chance to get their hands on the coveted prizes.

Anneliese said: “I feel so happy and excited to have won. I am a massive football fan and I support Chelsea so it will be great to go to Stamford Bridge.”
