A Whitton care home manager has been crowned the best in London.

Andrea Cully, who runs Kneller Road care home in Whitton, was named registered care home manager of the year for London at the Great British Care Awards.

She earned a place in the national finals of the competition, to be held at London's Marriott Hotel on April 24 next year.

Andrea joined the care home, run by Regard, in 2012, after being made redundant from Walsingham, the charity for people with learning disabilities at which she had worked for 18 years.

"Care has been my life and I'm passionate about learning more about the way we understand people with disabilities," she said.

"Attitudes are slowly beginning to change, but there is still a huge way to go to make sure people with special needs are included in our society.

"Just like the rest of us people with disabilities want to be heard. Listening to what they are they are trying to say, and talking to them appropriately and respectfully, has a huge impact on their quality of life."

Andrea was presented with the regional care manager award by compere Steve Walls at a ceremony in London's Grand Connaught Rooms on November 15.

Kneller Road care home has five beds and supports adults with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.
