THE excellent exhibition at the Harrow Museum includes a reference to the Southern Railways schools-class engine 'Harrow'.
Southern Railway introduced this class and named them after public schools, and unusually did not restrict the schools they used to the areas they served.
When the class was scrapped, British Railways donated one nameplate from the engine and the number plate from the smokebox to each school that was named.
Rugby School has its nameplate and number 30920 on display, and it claims to be the only school doing so.
What became of Harrow's nameplate and its number 30919?
