PATIENTS at West Middlesex Hospital are to enjoy tastier and more nutritious meals as an improved diet bay is introduced.

The West Mid dietitians and Ecovert FM (The hospital's facilities management company) have collaborated to introduce new high energy, high protein recipes and new menu choices.

Dietitian Claire Wyde explained how through these changes they hoped to reduce hospital stay, "Understandably, patients often suffer a loss of appetite during illness, so food fortification is an essential way of trying to maximise their intake," she said. "Our high energy, high protein food options help us to do this. The right nutrition is so important for the recovery process."

There is now also a larger area in the kitchen to prepare food for patients with specific dietary requirements.

Dietitian Hasina Aktar said: "The Hospital Chefs and supervisors have had training on different diets for various conditions, for example, diabetes and heart disease.

"The dieticians work, and will continue to work, very closely with the catering staff on a daily basis to improve patient experience at mealtimes."
