The Met Office has forecast outbreaks of snow for London to continue throughout the day, bringing further disruption to the evening rush hour.

Snow could be up to 15cm in places in London by the end of the day and Transport for London and the Highways Agency are advising Londoners to avoid travel if possible.

Cllr Danny Chalkley, Westminster’s Cabinet Member for the Street Environment and Transport said this 300 tonnes of gritting salt had already been spread around west London's roads, adding: “These are extraordinary weather conditions, but we have deployed 120 staff and seven gritting machines to help keep central London moving.
“We put our cold weather plan into operation as soon as we recognised that severe weather was likely. Over 100 staff have been gritting main roads and pavements since 10am on Sunday. They worked overnight and we have one gritting machine for every square mile of Westminster."

Westminster Council has also suspended parking enforcement.

Many west London schools are closed for the day:

Westminster

All of Westminster's 50 schools are closed apart from St George's Hanover Square and St Mary's Bryanston Square CE School. Unless the weather improves staff are also advising parents to keep their children at home tomorrow. Parents should check the council's website for updates on school closures.
