AN arts centre that has grown into a thriving hub for residents in West Ealing has been nominated in our Barclays Ealing Gazette Let's Do It awards.

Open Ealing launched in an empty office block in Uxbridge Road in April, transforming it into five floors of arts space for the whole community.

Leased from housing association A2Dominion, it aims to support local artists and bring a touch of creativity to families living on the Green Man estate.

Although it must find a new home when its lease runs out in spring, curator Jack Jones has high hopes for the growing project.

He said: "I'm in it for the long run. We want to be going for a long time with A2Dominion's support. We've a lot of local support."

Supporting the community and arts economy is at the heart of the project. Open Ealing was born out of West Ealing Arts, the brainchild of West Ealing Neighbours, which wanted to display local artists work.

Victoria Fiorvante, who nominated Open Ealing for lifting the arts scene in her area, said: "They've done more than anyone could ever imagine to improve culture in our neighbourhood. We now have a centre to be proud of."

The art centre runs 15 classes a week and hosted activity weeks for youngsters during summer.
