A 28-year-old has been transferred to a secure unit after being charged with the murder of an elderly man.

Ahmed Hussein of Jasmine Terrace was charged with the killing of Ibrahim Haji at his house on May 8. During a first appearance at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Friday, May 9, prosecutors told the court Mr Haji was a relative of Mr Hussein but did not specify whether it was by blood or marriage.

Police were called at midnight on May 8 following reports of a serious assault, and 79-year-old Mr Haji was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is undetermined so far.

Mr Hussein made a brief appearance at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, May 13, where Judge Richard Hone ordered that he be transferred to a secure psychiatric unit under section 48 of the Mental Health Act.

The defendant will next appear for a plea and case management hearing at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, July 16.
