A GENERATOR slipped off a truck and careered across a busy West Drayton pavement, crashing into a building.

The accident happened at 7.20pm on Saturday in Station Road, West Drayton causing the road to be closed off for four hours as police tried to make the scene safe.

Miraculously nobody was hurt in the incident, which was attended by all three emergency services.

The obstruction caused tailbacks in nearby Brandville Road and Warwick Road but with no diversion signs in place, drivers were reaching as far as the accident before having to adjust their route to negotiate the surrounding residential roads.

Police sealed off the area while paramedics attended along with London Fire Brigade also turning up, in case anybody was trapped by the load.

Officials from Hillingdon Council also went to the scene after a street lighting was also damaged in the accident.

The road was finally re-opened at 11.40pm.
