A WEEK'S blitz on litter, potholes and graffiti has given parts of Ickenham, Hillingdon, Uxbridge and Cowley a much-needed spring clean and repair.

The programme of 280 activities around the borough was part of Hillingdon Council's Streets Ahead scheme.

A total of 26.5 tonnes of electrical goods were collected free of charge and 30 bags of textiles were also gathered for recycling.

About 60 children from St Andrew's Primary School, in

Nursery Waye, Uxbridge, cleared up 20 bags of litter from Manor Recreation Ground.

People from Brookfield Adult Education Centre gathered seven bags of rubbish in Park Road, Uxbridge.

Young people serving community service orders cleaned graffiti from alleyways in Denziloe Avenue, Hillingdon and Walford Road, Uxbridge.

There were also crackdowns on truants and motoring offenders.

And potholes were fixed in Rowan Road, West Drayton - a welcome sight for residents there but a drop in the ocean given the state of the roads in the borough.
