A ‘SEXUAL predator’ who raped a wannabe concertgoer was caught and jailed for 11 years after officers trawled hotel rooms to track down the crime scene.

Lloyd Phillips, 48, had told his 24-year-old victim he had tickets to see girl groups ‘The Saturdays’ in concert in Wembley and picked her up from her home in Southampton in Hampshire on the afternoon of December 16 2011 to drive her to London.

Phillips gave her a can of the high-strength alcohol drink ‘Crunk’ to sip and an unknown tablet to swallow as soon as she got into the vehicle. He handed her a bag of powder and told: “That is for the concert”.

He encouraged her to drink and on the journey the victim says everything became “hazy” and she began to experience hallucinogenic effects.

The woman suffered a fit while in the car and Phillips was forced to wheel her into the hotel in a wheelchair where once inside the hotel room he subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault.

Twelve hours later she awoke in the hotel bed with no memory of what had happened in the intervening hours but felt distinctly unwell and with injuries.

Phillips told her they had engaged in consensual sexual activity rather than attend the concert,

The victim attended a hospital in Hampshire and, with her permission, the matter was referred to local police who subsequently passed it to officers from the Met’s Sapphire Command.

An investigation was launched and despite the victim’s lack of recollection, officers painstakingly trawled all local hotels in the Wembley area in an attempt to identify the crime scene.

Phillips, of Portland Street, Southampton, was jailed for 11 years at Harrow Crown Court on Friday August 16, although reporting restrictions meant the case can only now be reported.

He was found guilty on July 25 to two counts of rape, three of assault by penetration and one of sexual assault, and was acquitted of administering a substance with intent.

Detective Inspector Jodie Tuff, of the specialist sexual offences unit Sapphire, said: “Phillips is clearly a sexual predator who preyed on a vulnerable female, encouraging her to drink alcohol to the point where she was incapacitated before carrying out a sustained sexual attack on her.

“It is highly likely he has committed further offences therefore I would ask anyone with information or who wishes to report an offence to contact 020 8733 3773.”
