A SCHEME that transformed an area of Wembley was recognised with a Transport for London award.

The Wembley corridor, between Wembley Park and Wembley Central station, came runner up in the Transport for London Awards 2013.

It was highly commended in the category of providing excellence in walking and public realm on March 14.

The scheme was designed to improve pedestrian access to Wembley’s attractions through improvements including widening pavements around Wembley Park Station, planting shallow rooted trees on walkways and changing the traffic system and layout of the Wembley Hill Roundabout.

In July 2012, a sculpture of a bow and arrows called Gift of the Olympics Gods was installed on the roundabout on Empire Way a week before the start of the Olympic Games.
