THERE is no need for children to be bored this summer with the start of an action packed season of dance, film, art, theatre and more starting at Watermans Arts Centre.

Urban Ambush kicks off this Monday (29) with circus and dance theatre workshop, Zu Aerial, a film production course led by Chocolate films, graffiti art by Pain My Panda, a musical theatre workshop led by Theatre Workout and a robot and avatar design course led by body>data>space.

All the different week-long courses will see Watermans in Brentford being turned into one giant game for young people, with the car park being painted by creative youngsters while others build scuptures on the terrace as actors strut their stuff on the stage.

Every day there will be a BBQ and competitions, and on some days there will be DJs and other surprises where everybody, whether they are taking part or not, is welcome.

The aim of Urban Ambush is develop creativity, sociability and self-esteem in young people from across the borough aged 12 to 18-years-old.

With about 20,000 youngsters living in Hounslow and over 100 different languages being spoken it is sometimes very difficult to interact with culture outside of school, so Watermans is hoping all the events will help young people to consider new and previously unexplored ideas for education and career paths.

At the end of each workshop week there will be a showcase where all the work created will be performed or displayed for friends, parents and supports to enjoy.

There will also be a free film screening for ages 12 and over at the end of each day in the cinema.

Most workshops cost between £100 and £150, with concessions for booking more than one workshop. Prices have been kept low through subsidies from donations and grants from Heathrow Communities for Youth, Hounslow Council, Heidlberg and DunnHumby.

Courses run from July 29 to August 23.
