Staff at Waterloo railway station have been playing cupid after helping a romantic traveller propose to his girlfriend at the very spot where they met 18 months earlier.

Lisle Hunte contacted the station about staging his perfect proposal and they were delighted to help make it a special moment for the young couple.

They even flashed Lisle's heartfelt message to now fiancée Shalisha Cumberbatch on the station's customer information screens before he got down on one knee.

The message read: "Waterloo was where I met my best friend. It is here I am proposing to my soul mate. Shalisha, will you marry me?".

The busy concourse spontaneously burst into applause as Mr Hunte got down on one knee in front the screen and asked for Miss Cumberbatch’s hand in marriage on last Saturday evening (November 18).

They were introduced through a mutual friend and agreed to meet for the first time at Waterloo railway station.

“When I saw the proposal on the board at Waterloo station I couldn't believe it," said Shalisha. "It was so romantic and thoughtful. Waterloo station will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't wait to marry my soulmate.

"Thank you to all at Network Rail and South Western Railway for helping to make my dreams come true.”
