THAMES Water is to start repair work to prevent a repeat of the series of burst pipes that caused flooding in Brentford and Isleworth during the summer.

Six months of work will begin on January 4 to replace a large trunk main between Twickenham and Brentford.

The roads affected are Twickenham Road, in Isleworth, and London Road, High Street, Half Acre, Boston Manor Way, Windmill Road, Hamilton Road, New Road, Ealing Road and Netley Road, in Brentford

Thames Water bosses have invited people to attend a meeting on Monday (December 20) to discuss concerns about the disruption this may cause.

Brentford and Isleworth residents were hit by flooding twice this year, the first occasion, on August 12, causing widespread damage to homes.

Among the worst affected areas were Epworth Road and Lodge Close, in Brentford, where thousands of homes and businesses either had no water or experienced low pressure.

A spokesman for Thames Water said: "Relining means another tube will be inserted within the existing tube, making it less prone to leaks

and bursts. This work will be done in a way that cuts down the amount of digging we have to do in order to minimise disruption. Some digging will be required at intervals along the route, but nowhere near as much as putting a huge trench along this stretch of road."

The repair work will span the TW7 and TW8 postcode areas.

The spokesman added: "This main burst twice over the summer and caused a great deal of disruption. We owe it to the people of Brentford to sort it out."

Ozzie Kalkan, of the Coffee Pot, in London Road, said: "I am very pleased to hear they are doing this, even though we weren't too badly affected when it all happened."

But Mustafa Us, owner of the Nosherey Restaurant, in London Road, said he was concerned about the disruption that might be caused by the work.

He said: "We have been badly affected by the flooding. I think it has cost us about £1,500 in business altogether.

"I am worried there will be more problems while all this is going on. I want to go to the meeting."

The public meeting is being held at the Holiday Inn, in Brentford, on Monday from 4pm to 6pm. * Is your life still affected by the floods in Isleworth this year?
