SHEEP crossing Shepherd’s Bush Road are not a familiar sight these days, but a selection of photos shared on Facebook give a glimpse of a very different past.

Former Shepherd’s Bush resident Paul Taitt, who now lives in Maine on America’s east coast, created the W12 Nostalgia group on Facebook at the beginning of this month and more than 1,000 people joined it within two weeks.

The 44-year-old, who works in social media, told the Chronicle: “I left Shepherd’s Bush in 2006 and I was taking a trip down memory lane with some old Shepherd’s Bush friends, Trevor Henry and Valention Compino, when we thought it would be a nice idea to set up a Facebook group to reminisce about the old days.

“I set it up and within minutes of the conversation, and after doing a Facebook share blast, 400 people joined that weekend – it was amazing.”

People who used to live and work in the area have reconnected with those they lost touch with decades ago and hundreds of pictures have been posted on the site, with members reminiscing about their time in W12 and in west London in general.

“It is incredible to see all the pictures people have put up. The group heavily addresses the popular culture of past generations, especially the whole 70s and 80s,” Mr Taitt said.

“We are also trying to link up people who have lost touch. There’s a woman who’s looking for her brother-in-law, so hopefully the group can help her out.

“It is just a really great use of social media.”
