Volunteers tidied up a church garden in Hounslow for Sewa Day, an international day of action named after the Indian tradition of helping others.

A team of about a dozen helpers from various religions, including Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus, spent the day sweeping litter and pulling up weeds from the patio of Holy Trinity Church, in Hounslow High Street on Sunday (October 19).

They also planted flowers to bring some colour to the church, where helpers at the Olive Branch provide refuge to homeless people, offering them food and the chance to shower, every Saturday from 4pm-6pm.

The clean-up was organised by Hounslow Friends of Faith, a group set up to unite people of all religions in the borough.

Vicar Stu Wright, of Holy Trinity Church, said: "It was a great project involving young and old. Holy Trinity is right at the heart of Hounslow and we're so grateful for joint support for our work in the community."
