FOR anyone who already lives under the flightpath of planes heading for Heathrow, the prospect of another runway will be less than appealing.

Many people in west London already feel that the number of flights has reached saturation point, and the wisdom of expanding an airport in such a tightlypacked urban area as ours is certainlyquestionable.

Let's hope that the High Court agrees to a judicial review, and that all the arguments for expansion - which opponents describe as 'irrational' - are properly scrutinised before the Government pushes any further with this profoundlyunpopular project.

Helping hand

THE volunteer ambulance community responder scheme which could be rolled out in the next couple of months should give patients the vital roadside help they need before the professionals arrive on the scene.

People will be trained to deliver emergency first aid to patients while ambulance crews make their way there, and these extra few minutes could be the difference between life and death.

The scheme is an admirable initiative - as long as people are given adequate training.
