Boris Johnson's commitment to look into boosting Ealing's police numbers is a significant step to victory in our Beef Up Our Bobbies campaign.

Jason Stacey has done a good job of identifying an important issue and applying pressure where it counts to try to find a workable solution.

And his pitch to the London Mayor was given much added force by the sheer weight of support from our readers, who gave a wonderful response and sent a strong message that more police are sorely needed.

If even a handful more officers can be secured for Ealing, our combined efforts will lead to quantifiable improvements on the streets.

Our shame

THERE are times when human stupidity and ignorance beggars belief. And the shameful fact that Hanwell is one of the worst spots in the city for attacks against ambulance staff highlights this.

A register compiled by the London Ambulance Service has flagged 127 addresses in Hanwell where emergency staff have experienced attacks - the second worst level in London.

Local councillors are surprised at the figures, but they are a poor reflection on some in the area who resort to violence and verbal abuse rather than let medical staff do their job.
