A teenage member of a violent racist mob has narrowly avoided jail after breaking the cheekbone of an Asian security guard in Feltham High Street.

But Danny Foley, now 18, will have a 48-week sentence hanging over him for 18 months, must pay his victim £1,000 compensation, complete 110 hours unpaid work and observe a curfew from 6pm to 6am.

Foley, of Page Road, Feltham, admitted drinking eight pints of beer and 'some amount of spirits' before punching security guard Gurshuran Virdi on April 8 last year, breaking his eye and cheekbone.

Appearing at Isleworth Crown Court last Friday, he had already admitted charges of affray, threatening violence and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Prosecutor William Emlyn-Jones told the court Foley was part of a group of young men who turned on security guards in a multi-storey car-park in Feltham High Street early in the morning, kicking one to the ground and shouting obscene and racist abuse.

"Mr Virdi was in the security office and saw the disturbance grow and his colleagues being attacked on the CCTV," said counsel. "He tried to get through the group to assist his friend and was told to 'get out of the way - we want to kill this guy'."

The defendant then punched Mr Virdi hard in the face before the security officer retreated.

Mark Sahu, defending, said drink was the reason for the incident but that it had been 'life-changing' for his client who is now working in his grandfather's construction company."
