A violent robber wanted for prison recall has escaped after a police chase in Hammersmith.

The suspect, 25, was spotted with another man in a car in Seabrook Road, Fulham, at about noon on Thursday and was tracked by an unmarked police car.

A short time afterwards the car came to a halt and the man, who is wanted for common assault, robbery and prison recall, then ran off while the other man was arrested after being found with drugs.

A chase then ensued and officers called for armed back-up, while the police helicopter was also dispatched to assist.

An area of the Bayonne Estate near Abbey Gardens was cordoned off as police tried to catch the suspect but he escaped and remains at large.

Prison recalls usually occur when a person is released from jail under licence. Common reasons for recall include failure to attend probation appointments or committing further offences.
