My name is David Crean, and I have just read your story about the end of Hanworth Carnival.

I was on the young oaks committee (the youth branch of the carnival) for three years before moving to Kent.

During meetings for the carnival every time this 'lazy generation' put ideas forward to the committee not only were we shouted down or just plainly ignored, their favourite comment was 'it won't work' or 'we have always done it like that'.

So for them to have the audacity to blame younger generations for the demise is obscene, when as far as I'm concerned it was more the blinkered attitude of the committee.

I am not here to slam them as they have done a stellar job raising thousands for charity and I applaud them for that, but surely the biggest comment that can sum this up is 'people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones'.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to return to Hanworth.
