A SCOUT group whose base was attacked by vandals is the latest charity to be nominated for the Let's Do It awards.

Thugs set light to a fence last year and used bricks to smash windows at the building in Lampton Road, Hounslow, which the 4th Hounslow Scouts share with Lampton Children's Centre.

The fences have already been repaired but scout leaders hope to win the £1,000 Let's Do It top prize so they can replace the windows and fix grilles to protect against a future attack.

More than 60 boys and girls, aged from six to 15, are members of the group, which meets at the historic 'Stables' building beside the Civic Centre multi-storey car park.

Formed in 1980 when the 1st and 2nd Hounslow groups merged, it is the last remaining scout group in central Hounslow.

As well as the usual scouting activities, members often carry out good deeds in the community, from packing shopping bags for charity to planting trees.

Group scout leader Sue Klesel said: "Members take part in a wide and varied programme of activities, enabling them to learn life skills, working in a team as well as individually.

"Should we win the money, it would be used to replace the broken and damaged windows and to buy metal grilles to go on the outside of the windows.

"This will ensure our headquarters is a safer and brighter environment again for the young people in our care."
