Firefighters had a busy night as gale-force winds swept across Hounslow on Friday, but the borough appears to have escaped any serious damage.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman today said crews had attended 10 calls related to the stormy conditions during Friday (February 14)  night and the early hours of Saturday.

He said most of these call-outs were to deal with potential hazards like trees, hoardings or masonry sent tumbling by fierce winds, reported to have hit 60mph, but no one is known to have been seriously injured as a result.

Among the incidents firefighters attended were reports of concrete blocks falling from a roof in Edgar Road, Hounslow, and fibreglass sheeting in a 'precarious position' on a roof in Norwood Close, Southall.

Hoardings around a building site just off Hounslow High Street, in London Road, were still badly bowed this morning and there was still evidence of police tape at the site, which appeared to have been cordoned off.
