Former teaching assistant Kevin Sempers has been jailed for sexual activity with a teenager.

The Commonwealth Games decathlete, 29, had faced two charges of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15. He admitted both, and was jailed for 18 months for each, the sentences to run concurrently.

Sempers, originally from Scunthorpe and who attended Brunel University in Kingston Lane, Uxbridge, before making his home in the town, was charged in October 2013. He initially denied the offences, and appeared at Isleworth Crown Court last month for trial, but one day into the hearing he changed his plea.

Sempers narrowly missed out on a bronze medal at the 2010 Delhi games when he represented England, eventually finishing fifth.

On Friday, November 28, at Isleworth Crown Court, he was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and ordered to pay a £100 victim surcharge.
