'Arise Sir John!'

At an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace this afternoon (Wednesday), Uxbridge and South Ruislip MP John Randall received from the Prince of Wales the knighthood conferred upon him in the Queen's New Year's Honours list.

Prince Charles chatted briefly to the former Conservative deputy chief whip before performing the traditional touch of the sword upon Mr Randall's shoulders.

Mr Randall told the Gazette: "It was a real thrill and an honour.

"I was proud to have my family with me but humbled by so many worthy recipients of honours."

At the same ceremony, the parents of mudered schoolboy Jimmy Mizen received their MBEs.

Barry and Margaret Mizen started the Jimmy Mizen Ffoundation after their son's death, to increase awareness of the consequences of violent crime.
