VINTAGE vehicles, American supercars, and a committed crowd of families and motor enthusiasts battled predictions of heavy rain to attend the Uxbridge Autoshow.

The show, organised by the Uxbridge Rotary Club, was held on Sunday at the Middlesex Showground on Park Road, Uxbridge.

Gerry Hanson, president of the Uxbridge Rotary Club, said: “It went extremely well, the arena displays were magnificent.

“There were only a couple of downpours lasting a couple of minutes each.

“The charity stalls did well, and the mayor attended and had a really great time.”

The main attraction of the day was the Backdraft Wheelie Fire Truck, which with flashing lights, sirens, and breathing fire, thrilled crowds.

Mr Hanson added: “It really is an amazing vehicle, the show raised so much money for the people of Uxbridge.”

Early estimates show around £6,500 was raised at the 19 charity stalls, with staff from Barclays volunteering to run them.

The show also had a visit from the Rotary District Governor, Terry Kenyon, who was very impressed with the spectacular.

Notable entries included a 1930s fire truck from the Imperial College Students Union, and 15 vintage taxi's from the London Taxi Drivers Association.
