IT WAS interesting to read your article (January 15 edition) regarding the council looking to appoint a town centre manager for Brentford.

I understand that the money from Tesco will be utilised to support the role and developments to the High Street.

While I think this is a good idea I do feel that some of the money should be used to improve the immediate environment/residential area near the Tesco superstore.

I live near Tesco and have numerous issues with the paving in Syon Lane, which is in need of urgent repair (my neighbours have tripped on uneven paving).

The growing volume of traffic (two young men died in a traffic accident last year on this lane), parking problems and the development of the Goals facility will add to the general congestion and deterioration of the local area.

Furthermore, the construction of a new hotel on the Gillette site will cause more concern to residents and no doubt more problems.

I strongly feel that some of the Tesco money should be spent to improve our area as we feel the real 'impact' of the store and the business it attracts.

I hope you are able to support our concerns as I fear our situation will worsen.
