Unwanted duvets made for happier dogs as 1,000 blankets have been delivered to animal charities.

At the end of the academic year, hundreds of Brunel University students leave their unwanted duvets in their hall of residents.

Hillingdon Council's waste and recycling team collected them to save them being sent to landfill sites.

Now, cats and dogs rescued by The Dogs Trust in Harefield and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home are nice and cosy thanks to the council's delivery of 1,000 duvets, which are used as bedding.

Richard Moore, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Harefield said: “We are so grateful to Hillingdon Council for yet another incredibly generous donation of bedding for the homeless hounds in our care.

“Keeping the dogs happy and healthy as they wait for their new families is one of our top priorities, and these donations go a long way in making sure they are as comfortable as they can be.”

Cllr Keith Burrows, Cabinet Member for Planning, Transport and Recycling, commends the council's waste and recycling team for “going the extra mile.”

He said: “This year our waste and recycling team collected over 1,000 duvets – 800 for the Dogs Trust in Harefield and the rest for Battersea Dogs and Cats’ Home, Old Windsor site."
