Although Fleming ward nursing and medical staff have been on the receiving end of praise in the past, I feel we must also show recognition for some other hard working individuals working within the department.

For many years, 'Mimm' has been helping haematology patients, starting off on Lister ward and then the day care unit before transferring up to Fleming.

She sacrifices her own time despite the fact that she could be a lady of leisure enjoying retirement now.

She brightens up the days for patients receiving chaemotherapy, transfusions and other treatments with her very chirpy and friendly personality, making them feel at ease and they do say laughter is the best medicine.

She even finds time to chat to former patients attending outpatient clinics if she see them in passing.

The competent, helpful and friendly porter Steve is also to be commended for his hard work transporting patients between the ward and outpatient clinics.

People like these are the unsung heroes, vital to the smooth running of hospital life, providing important services, and are a shining example to the local community as they've been working hard for so many years.
