THICK black smoke was seen over Neasden as a fire damaged part of a tyre workshop.

Parts of the North Circular Road were closed on Monday as firefighters tackled a blaze at the junction of the dual carriageway and Brook Road shortly after 6.30pm.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: “We sent three fire engines and 15 fire fighters from Hendon and Willesden fire stations. We were called at 6.36pm. There was damage to a pedestrian bridge that was in the tyre yard. The fire was under control at 7.47pm and the cause of the fire is under investigation.”

The London Ambulance Service attended the scene but no assistance was needed.

The London Fire Brigade tweeted: “We’re attending a tyre fire on North Circular Road, Neasden. It’s producing thick black smoke so close your doors and windows if you’re near.”

The North Circular Road A406 was closed eastbound from Neasden Lane to Staples Corner and one lane was closed westbound.

It opened later but there were severe delays.

A statement from police will follow.
