Owners of two beauty salons in Chiswick have been fined more than £2,500 for using untrained and under qualified staff to carry out treatments.

JK Nails near Turnham Green and Pampering Palace close to Stamford Brook station, both on Chiswick High Road, were prosecuted by Hounslow council for putting the safety of their customers at risk.

Owner of nail bar Hien Thi Nguyen landed a hefty £1440 in fine and costs while owner of the beauty and skin specialist salon Tannaz Mohammadzadeh had to pay a total of £1090.

Both cases were heard at Feltham Magistrates Court last Monday (4).

Just two months ago, two nail salons in Brentford were also fined for employing unlicensed workers.

Councillor Richard Foote, cabinet member for community protection at the council, said: “When someone uses a beauty salon, they have the right to expect staff to be adequately trained in providing safe treatments.

“These premises are required to have a licence to ensure potentially harmful treatments are being carried out by competent and qualified staff.

“We will not hesitate in taking action against people who think they can get away with ignoring the rules, so I’m pleased the court has sent a clear message by fining these two firms.”

Businesses in neighbouring borough Ealing were also fined for employing illegal workers earlier this year.

Council officers and police carried out a series of unannounced inspections in Hounslow to make sure salons were operating to the terms and conditions of their licences in November and December last year.

Both beauty salons were in breach of the licences which highlight therapists must be trained and qualified to carry out treatments as a means of reducing the risk of injury or infection to the public.

At JK Nails, officers found three employees, none of whom were named on the licence, carrying out manicures and other treatments.

However at the time the premises licence holders were not present.

A return visit in March this year saw four staff performing treatments, despite not being authorised to do so.

At Pampering Palace, officers found staff offering treatments despite not being named on the licence.
