A GANG of thugs viciously assaulted two men outside a pub, leaving one victim requiring surgery.

One of the men had his head stamped on and the other suffered a broken ankle, in what appears to have been an unprovoked attack outside a pub.

One victim, aged 52, was attacked from behind as he stood outside The Grange in Wood End Green Road, Hayes, at about 9.45pm on January 21. He suffered serious facial injuries.

The other injured man, aged 38, tried to stop the assault but was set upon by the group.

It is believed he was slashed with glass and ended up with a severely broken ankle, which required extensive surgery.

The two victims did not know each other.

Police are still trying to trace the culprits and investigators think there were at least four people involved in the attack.

Detective Constable Chris Hayward, the lead officer in the case, said: “The motives around these attacks is unclear at present.

“We believe the attack on the second victim continued for several minutes outside the pub. ”
