TWO people were taken to hospital after a car collided with a lamp post in Southall on Wednesday.

A metallic grey Nissan Micra struck the post at about 12 pm on the Uxbridge Road, near the junction at Morland Gardens.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the scene. One of the car's occupants was a 66-year-old who was rushed to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington with facial and back injuries. The other occupant was taken to Ealing Hospital with minor injuries.

Esther Ratchford, who lives nearby and walks up and down that stretch of Uxbridge Road every day with her young children said: “When I heard there was an accident I was so scared. Every time I walk under the iron bridge I was always fear for my life. This is such a dangerous road. Cars and vehicles drive along here so fast. This is especially upsetting as it happened at midday. I'm just really glad no-one was killed.”

A police spokeswoman said: “We can confirm we were called to a vehicle incident at 12.08pm on Wednesday March 16. A grey Nissan Micra was in collision with a lamp post on the Uxbridge Road, close to the Iron Bridge in Southall. The male driver and female passenger were both taken to hospital."
