Two children were among the injured after an HGV ploughed into a bus stop in Fulham Broadway on Tuesday afternoon.

The horror accident happened when the truck reportedly tried to do a three point turn by the bus stop outside the bar, Fiesta Havana, about 1.30. Two other people, believed to be the children's mothers, were also taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital with what London Ambulance described as 'minor injuries'.

Witnesses said they heard the crash followed by screams. A worker at nearby Elrochee, a Lebanese restaurant, said: "It was really disturbing. I heard a loud bang then a lot of screaming.

"The ambulances came within minutes. It was horrible, although I didn't see any of the injured people."

Another witness phoned the Chronicle to say: "It was terrible. I thought someone had been seriously hurt. The bus stop has been completely smashed and there is glass everywhere."

Major traffic disruption was avoided when one of the paramedics at the scene revealed he held an HGV licence and could assist with moving the stricken lorry.

Duty Will Kearns said: "Our single responder who went to the scene is trained to drive HGVs and was able to assist the police by driving the truck away from the collision site and helping to clear the road."

The road was only closed for 45 minutes.
