TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a former Brent pupil.

Daniel Smith, (pictured) 22, was gunned down while returning to his car after buying food at a KFC in Harrow Road, near Paddington, in May.

Within an hour, Mr Smith, who was an electrician and a former pupil at Cardinal Hinsley Mathematics and Computing College, in Harlesden, had died from a gunshot wound.

It was not believed Daniel, from Paddington, was involved with gangs or crime and may have been mistaken for someone else, police have said.

The men have been bailed to return in early February pending further inquiries.

Seven other people have also been arrested in connection with the murder. Operation Trident, which looks into cases of black-on-black gun crime, is investigating.

Detective Inspector Mark Brookes, from the inquiry team, said: "We believe this is likely to be gang-related and was a case of mistaken identity."

In July CCTV images were released with images of individuals police are keen to speak to regarding the incident.
