Commuters in Uxbridge will face travel disruption for weeks starting tomorrow, Saturday, July 19.

This weekend (July 19 and 20) and the weekend of July 26 and 27, there will be no Metropolitan line service between Uxbridge and Wembley Park, or between Northwood and Wembley Park.

During the week, London Underground are closing the Metropolitan line between Uxbridge and Ruislip.

On two other weekends there will be no service on the Metropolitan line between Uxbridge and Rayners Lane.

On the Piccadilly line, trains will not be running between Uxbridge and Rayners Lane on both weekdays and weekends. The closures run until August 10 to replace 6km of track.

London Underground planned the work to be carried out during the school summer break and has said that carrying the work out in a block period of 23 days reduces the number of weekend closures that would have been needed - a total of 14 weekends.

Throughout the closure, tickets will be accepted on buses and a rail replacement bus service will be in operation connecting with the Central line and National Rail trains at West Ruislip station in Ickenham Road.

The 48-hour tube strike in February saw commuters in Uxbridge finding different ways to travel to work with roads across the borough feeling the strain of extra traffic.

George McInulty, London Underground’s programme director of infrastructure, said: "The track replacement work on the Uxbridge branch is a crucial part of the Metropolitan line upgrade. In recent years our customers have seen the arrival of the new walk-through air-conditioned trains and in the future will  benefit from more frequent and faster services when new signalling is installed. However for customers to fully benefit from all these improvements it is essential that we upgrade the track and infrastructure to support it.

"Carrying out a block closure of this section of the network will enable us to complete the work in just over three weeks as opposed to fourteen weekend closures.

"This approach means that there will be no time lost due to set-up and hand-back of works, which minimises working time and helps to significantly reduce the cost - saving around £3million of tax and fare payers’ money- and ultimately keeping disruption to customers to an absolute minimum."
