YOUNG and old came together to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of Chiswick's most historic churches.

TV star Rula Lenska joined locals to launch St Michael's Sutton Court Centenary celebrations which also saw money raised for charity.

Visitors to the event in Elmwood Road last Saturday, enjoyed live jazz from the Eric Gilchrist Quintet, the premier of the Chiswick Three Schools Choir, comprising Grove Park, Belmont and Strand-On-The-Green primary schools and DIY bell-ringing.

Joanne Mallabar, one of the organisers said: "The party was a fantastic success. Local celebrity Rula Lenska, and her daughter Lara, brought a sparkle to the proceedings.

"The fundraising, for Shooting Star children's hospice and St Michael's Organ Appeal broke all previous records. This is thanks to the incredible hard work and brilliance of Debra Sparey and Virginia Fowell - the two main organisers.

"This is a fantastic start to a year long programme of Centenary celebrations. And we hope that so many of the people who came along to check out St Michael's will visit us again."
