TV STAR Gethin Jones joined fellow celebrities including Alexandra Burke and Lorraine Kelly got on their bikes for a cycle around Richmond Park on Wednesday (June 8).

The former Blue Peter presenter got on his bike as part of Sky Ride 2011, a national campaign by Sky and British Cycling to get more people pedalling.

The keen cyclist, who lives in Richmond and can often be seen pedalling side by side around the area with fiancee Katherine Jenkins, was also there to highlight the search for the nation's 'Perfect Hill' to cycle down.

He nominated the devilishly steep incline in Richmond Park, just to the right of Richmond Gate, which he described as 'pretty hideous'.

"The idea of Sky Ride is to get people to take the first step of getting on their bike," said Jones, who recently finished a respectable fourth in his first triathlon, in Croatia. The website's got lots of tips about how to get out and about, and how to maintain your bike. I use my bike to commute into central London and as a social thing for mountain biking around Richmond Park."

The aim of the Sky Ride campaign, which includes free events and activities as well as information and support for cyclists, is to get one million people across the UK using their bikes regularly by 2013.

The Mayor of London's Sky Ride, for which a huge number of roads in the capital are closed to allow cyclists of all ages and abilities the chance to enjoy a traffic-free ride, takes place on September 4 this year.

Anyone can nominate their 'Perfect Hill', based on a number of criteria including the view and what it means to them. A panel of three judges including Olympic Gold medallist Chris Hoy will make the final decision.
