HUNDREDS of children ventured into the Deep Dark Wood and braved to meet a dangerous Gruffalo at Westfield.

The fearsome character from Julia Donaldson's best-selling children's book was a special guest at the shopping centre last Wednesday (23/2).

Many young visitors chose to dress like the beast and were also treated to a reading of the book, which has sold 10 million copies worldwide, by TV presenter Edith Bowman.

The event was held to celebrate the release of The Gruffalo Red Nose Day Book which will help raise money for Comic Relief.

The Gruffalo, published in 1999, tells the story of a fearless and cunning mouse who tricks the bloodthirsty animal that he is a fearsome creature himself to escape its clutches.
