Spirits could not be dampened despite the rain at this year’s Greenford Carnival on Armed Forces Day.

About a thousand people including Mayor of Ealing Councillor Tej Ram Bagha, the Deputy Mayor Councillor Harbhajan Kaur Dheer and MP for Ealing North Steve Pound turned up to enjoy the live music, dance performances, family activities and army presence in Ravenor Park on Saturday (June 28).

Officers from the 582 Transport Squadron, from the Army Reserve Centre based in Southall, attended the event and officers from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity were on hand to tell visitors more about the British Armed Forces and the work the charity does to support them.

Leader of the council, Julian Bell, said: “The rain certainly reduced numbers from previous years so it was a shame but for those hardy souls that came it was very enjoyable.

“Everybody enjoyed the music and the taekwondo people were quite cool, I even joined in and did some kicking.

“The fairground rides were popular as was the sports area and we had fun in tug of war.

“It was Armed Forces Day so everybody was pleased to see them there and to thank them for all they do.”
